I love this photo, and it is the first I have seen with the two original Christ Church buildings and the German Methodist Episcopal Church. Next to the second of our chapels- the brick building- is the original clapperboard (1811) chapel which was moved to make space for the brick one. It was removed to build our current sanctuary in the late 1860s. The German church was on the current police station site and it looks like the first one which burned in the great fire of 1862. The building on the hill is Troy Unuversity, built by the trustees of our church, but which graduated only one full 4 year class before closing. Drew- of Drew University fame- had promised to back it, as his NYC to Troy ferry service was lucrative – but he ended up backing the other end of his shipping line, and this university had to close. They decided to build the current church shortly afterward.

We are looking forward to our joint Maundy Thursday worship service at First United Presbyterian Church this evening! It is a dinner service with communion, so bring your appetite. I know this is a busy season, but I look forward to seeing all who can make it, 6pm tonight at First United Presbyterian
